There are few things more rewarding than a proper cream tea after a walk on the Quantock Hills, Somerset. Whether you’ve just come down from the heather-covered ridges or wandered through ancient combes and woodland, nothing quite beats sitting down with a warm scone, local jam, and a generous helping of clotted cream.

The Quantocks might not shout about it, but they’re full of quietly brilliant places to stop for a cream tea — from tucked-away farm cafés to coastal tearooms with sea air drifting in.

Here are some of our favourite and best cream tea spots near the Quantocks, including a few true hidden gems you might otherwise miss.

The Rocking Horse Café, near Crowcombe

Tucked away on a farm at the foot of the hills, this is one of those places you only find if someone tells you about it — or you get lucky on a walk.

With its pretty garden and relaxed atmosphere, it’s a perfect place to slow down. The cream teas here are simple, generous, and exactly what you want after a morning exploring.

It's the type of location people refer to as a "beautiful discovery... hidden in the Quantocks" with a warm, inviting atmosphere that encourages visitors to return.

The Chantry Café, Kilve Beach

If your idea of a perfect cream tea includes sea views, this is hard to beat.

Set beside the historic chantry ruins at Kilve Beach, this little café is a favourite stop on coastal walks. Expect classic cream teas, ice creams and a slightly wild, windswept charm that feels very Somerset.

It’s especially good if you’re combining a beach walk with your tea stop.

Combe House Hotel, Holford

For something a little more indulgent, this hidden valley location is a real treat.

Nestled in woodland at the heart of the Quantocks, Combe House offers traditional cream teas in a peaceful, tucked-away setting. It’s ideal if you want to turn your afternoon into more of an occasion or after a longer walk through the combes.

Chives Café, Watchet

Tucked just a short stroll from Watchet’s harbour, Chives Café is one of those places that quietly gets everything right. It’s a long-standing local favourite, known for its warm welcome, relaxed atmosphere, and consistently good homemade food.

If you’re in search of a proper cream tea, this is one of the best spots in Watchet to find it.

It is perfect fa relaxed cream tea after a harbour walk or a laid-back afternoon stop in Watchet.

Mortimers, Dulverton (Exmoor edge)

Just beyond the Quantocks but well worth the short drive, this charming café in Dulverton is known for its excellent cakes and relaxed atmosphere.

Cream teas here are a highlight, with homemade touches and plenty of choice.

Meadow Somerset, Bishops Lydeard

Tucked away down a quiet lane just outside Bishops Lydeard, Meadow Somerset is one of those places that feels like a real find. Set on a working farm at the edge of the Quantocks, it offers a more contemporary take on the traditional café experience, with a relaxed, countryside setting that’s hard to beat.

The setting is a big part of the appeal — a peaceful courtyard, open skies, and plenty of space for families to relax. It’s especially popular with those looking to combine a walk in the Quantocks with something a little more special afterwards.

A note on local favourites (and hidden finds)

One of the joys of the Quantocks is that not every great cafe spot is widely advertised. Some of the best hidden seasonal gems for a sweet treat are:

  • Steet Bean Coffee Co - Adscombe
